I’m working on new serving trays that will be great as gifts or you can make a moment special entertaining for the holidays.

BWAC closed for the winter last fall and I thought I had all this time to make new things for the new season but winter was full of its own surprises and once again it was a rush to the finish to have work for BWAC’s spring show opening this weekend.

Where I live and the people around me are what inspire me and Brooklyn is filled with so much history told through its architecture because it is the one NYC borough that still has existing examples of all of the types of architecture the city has ever had. For me Red Hook still has the feeling of a pioneer town filled with possibilities and I love the solidness of the brick buildings that have survived the wearing of time. I also find something so calming about a place where the water and the sky are so much bigger than the land.

So if you come to BWAC over the next 6 weekends between 1 and 6 pm you will get to see my new works but also the work of over 200 artists many who live right here in Brooklyn.

There is a reason Brooklyn inspires artists. Not only its architecture e but also the tree lines streets and gardens filled with flowers. In about another week the bluebells will be in bloom at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and each year love to stand in the middle of the field of bluebells surrounding the birch trees and feel I’m in a Van Gogh painting. It was my love of flowers and gardens mixed with my passion for food that moved me to create my mini cup cake stands.

But that is not their only purpose. They can multi task as candle holders or

as a soap dish . . . .  ring dish or . . . . votive candle holder sold in sets of four.

December 6th and 7th I return to the Brooklyn Historical Society with NYCreates. I will be there with a great group of artists and artisans with everything from photography and painting for gifts to jewelry, clothing and hats. This year I will have have several other potters for company all to tempt you to buy a little something unique for yourself or for someone you love.

BWAC has re-invented itself from the ground up recovering from Super Storm Sandy that brought 5 feet of water rushing into our ground floor gallery on the piers in Red Hook. Our spring show On The Waterfront: Zone A will open May 11th. We are down the street from IKEA and across the street from Fairway. Rumor has it the Water Taxi will be stopping again at Fairway making easy transportation to us from the Wall Street stop in Manhattan or a quick ride from Fulton landing in Brooklyn. It’s a great way to travel to Brooklyn.

If you are wondering what to do with mom a ride on the water taxi, a casual early brunch by the water at Fairway then a short walk along the water to BWAC for the opening weekend of our double decker show. On the ground floor the 4th Annual Wide Open National Juried Show exhibiting the work of over 100 artist from all over the country.

Upstairs enjoy the work of BWAC’s exhibiting artist from all over the city with On The Waterfront Zone A. The photo at the top of this blog is the first incarnation of my ceramic piece in the show Red Hook Sunset. Come to the show and see the final result.

Personally this past year has been a challenge for me as I rebuild myself after surgery for thyroid cancer. I knew everything would be okay for sure when my surgery date was moved from Friday the 13th to Good Friday.

But I’m back and re-launching my etsy shop with some new ideas that I will release over the next few months. So please check out my etsy site at

Maybe for Mother’s Day you would like to have Tea for two in a one of a kind teapot. Or gift yourself to brighten up a rainy day.

I love walking down the street this time of year when the streets come alive with the sights and smells of all the beautiful flowers. My favorites are the green spider mums. They look so elegant and graceful especially when I use them with one of my turtle frogs or is it frog turtle?  Put them in a shallow glass dish with a river rocks and a little water and you have something special.turtlefrog

There is more to the ceremony of serving tea than what tea you select and how you prepare it. There is also what you serve it in.  Susan Morris has included two of my tea sets from my etsy shop in her online pottery newsletter in an article on both teapots and hand building. Check out and you will find my pink teapot set which is my tribute to old fashion tea sets and the memory of little girls all dressed up in their mother’s shoes, gloves and hats maybe drinking a fruity peach or tangy ginger and hibiscus tea blend. Also scroll down to find the Vessel Tea pot set. The shape reminds me of old fashion liners with slow trips to far away places maybe while drinking an earl gray or oolong tea.
